Hearing N and NG apart is a skill, not a talent. Few training studies have looked at N and NG at the end of a word, but high variability phonetic training (HVPT), the method TellApart uses, is well tested on other sounds. Ron Thomson's 2018 review of 32 HVPT studies found strong evidence that it works and that the gains last.
