Hearing buddy and body apart is a skill, not a talent. In a study by Nishi and Kewley-Port (2007), Japanese learners trained for 9 days on three English vowels, including the ones in buddy and body. On those vowels, they went from 38% to 76% correct, and 3 months later they were still at 65%.
